Connecting 2 CANsmarts

As for actually hooking this all up, you simply need to connect the two CANsmart devices together via the large CANbus connectors, and then plug it the remaining two CANbus connectors into the bike as you would normally.

You will need to program each CANsmart individually by connecting them to the software one at a time.

All inputs from the handlebar controls will control both CANsmart devices simultaneously.

For example purposes we'll be using D7 and D4 lights.

Make sure the D7s and D4s end up on different lights "sets" this way you can turn off and dim the D7s independently from the D4s and vice versa.

Since the GEN II device is programmable, while the GEN I has only 4 preset circuit functions, Id suggest moving your Horn and Brake light to the GEN I device. This way you free up two circuits on the GEN II, which can programmed via the software to control a variety of different device types.

GEN I

  • Circuit 1 (Long Red/Yellow) = D7 (***Both pods, see below)
  • Circuit 2 (Short Red/Yellow) = Empty (can only be used for lights or switched power)
  • Circuit 3 (Green) = Horn
  • Circuit 4 (Orange) = Brake

GEN II

  • Circuit 1 (Red) = D4 Left
  • Circuit 2 (Blue) = D4 Right
  • Circuit 3 (Yellow) = Empty (can be used for a variety of different devices)
  • Circuit 4 (White) =Empty (can be used for a variety of different devices)

***Another thing to consider is that the GEN I device can not cancel the lights individually with the turns signals. It is only able to cancel both lights at the same time when either side turn signal is activated. If you want independent left right canceling to work with both set of lights, you need to move the D7s to the GEN II. That would look like this.

GEN I

  • Circuit 1 (Long Red/Yellow) = Empty (can only be used for lights or switched power)
  • Circuit 2 (Short Red/Yellow) = Empty (can only be used for lights or switched power)
  • Circuit 3 (Green) = Horn
  • Circuit 4 (Orange) = Brake

GEN II

  • Circuit 1 (Red) = D4 Left
  • Circuit 2 (Blue) = D4 Right
  • Circuit 3 (Yellow) = D7 Left
  • Circuit 4 (White) = D7 Right

Daisy-chaining two CANsmarts together is very simple and straightforward. You simply need to connect the two CANsmart devices together via the large CANbus connectors, and then plug it the remaining two CANbus connectors into the bike as you would normally.

You will need to program each CANsmart individually by connecting them to the software utility one at a time.

All inputs from the handlebar controls will control both CANsmart devices simultaneously.

Make sure any light pairs are reassigned to different light "sets" this way you can turn off and dim any lights independently.
