FROZEN or SEIZED KAOKO™ Friction Nut

FROZEN or SEIZED KAOKO™ Friction Nut

We have on the very rare occasion encountered customers whom have experienced this freezing or seizing of the  Friction Nut.

The problem is easily resolved on most occasions with KAOKO’s guidance; and we look forward to promptly and  properly resolving your matter as well.

a. What are the day and night ambient temperature difference ranges where you located?  Is there a big day/night temperature variance?

b. Has the motorcycle has been in a collision (or heavily dropped) on the throttle side of the bike? Proposed solution 1:

Try removing the grub (set) screw with the 2mm Allen Key to see if the Friction Nut loosens up?

If this process works, then perform the KAOKO™ control maintenance as per the fitting instructions. Reassemble the control and fit the control to the bike as guided in the fitting instructions.

If an over torqued grub screw is not the problem; -

Proposed solution 2

Completely remove the Kaoko™ control from the motorcycle

Boil some water and add a little mild household cleaner (like dish washing liquid).

b. Let the Kaoko™ control soak in warm to hot water for 1-2 minutes (about 70-90 degrees Celsius) c. Remove the Kaoko™ control from the hot water, taking the necessary precaution not to burn yourself when  removing, and try to rotate the control left and right.

If this process works, then perform the KAOKO™ control maintenance as per the fitting instructions. Reassemble the control and fit the control to the bike as guided in the fitting instructions.

If soaking the control on hot water does not solve the problem; -

Proposed solution 3:

1. place the spigot of the control, or the KAOKO control itself (if it does not have a spigot), into a Table  Vice Jaw (which is bolted to an artisan’s type work bench)

2. Note that the KAOKO™ Friction Nut has a left-hand thread:

Using a rubber mallet and an impact tool (eg. hard wood or plastic block / rod of sorts). • place the impact tool onto one of the castellations on the Friction Nut and gently tap the tool against the  Friction Nut

  • this impact should provide the necessary force to overcome the seized friction nut.
  • If this process works, then perform the KAOKO™ control maintenance as per the fitting instructions. Reassemble the control and fit the control to the bike as guided in the fitting instructions.

If none of the above Solutions 1 to 3 relieve the frozen (seized) Friction Nut we will then supply you with alternative  options.

This may include your returning (at your cost) the KAOKO™ Throttle Stabilizer to KAOKO™ for our inspection  purposes.

KAOKO™ will in-turn replace the control free of charge. We do offer a 5-year functional guarantee on all our  Throttle Stabilizers products.

In the event that KAOKO™ replaces this Throttle Stabilizer under warranty referred to above; please provide us  with your below details and information.

    1. Full names and delivery address

    2. Proof of purchase

    3. Motorcycle make, model, and year of production; - that the Throttle Stabilizer device is currently fitted  to (or intended for).
